Ford Bronco: The Spirit of Off-Road in a Modern Key

The new Ford Bronco, offered in Europe starting from 71,950 euros, is an authentic off-road vehicle designed to tackle the most challenging terrains without compromise. Inspired by the legendary American model produced between 1965 and 1996, the Bronco maintains a robust and decisive identity, while integrating the latest generation of technological elements and comfort.
Its design does not go unnoticed: it clearly recalls the style of the original 1966 model, thanks to the front grille that extends across the entire width and the circular headlights that give it a gritty and unmistakable look. The square body is not only an aesthetic choice, but also a functional one, making it easier to perceive its dimensions. Two small supports on the hood also contribute to this, designed to help with maneuvers and to secure loads such as a canoe. In addition, both the roof and the doors can be removed, and in the Badlands version there are special bags to store them conveniently on board.
From a technical point of view, the Bronco is built on a ladder frame with seven cross members, confirming its off-road vocation. The quadrilateral front suspensions offer a refined response, while at the rear we find a solid rigid axle. To facilitate driving on any type of surface, the car has low gears and a camera system with 360-degree vision, also useful in the tightest urban maneuvers.
The cabin, which can accommodate up to five passengers, focuses on functionality and resistance. The dashboard is large and square, with two displays — one 8 and one 12 inches — and physical controls for the climate control. In the center of the console is a large rotary selector to choose between rear-wheel drive, four-wheel drive and transfer case. There is no shortage of accessories designed for modern comfort, such as a pad for wireless charging of the smartphone and a B&O audio system with ten speakers. The switches are sealed with silicone, a detail that demonstrates the care taken for use in difficult environments.
Under the hood, the Ford Bronco is equipped with a 2.7-liter twin-turbo V6 gasoline engine, capable of delivering 335 horsepower and 563 Nm of torque, combined with a ten-speed automatic transmission. Performance is brilliant, especially off-road, but consumption is quite high. On asphalt, the ride suffers from the massive shapes, with limited precision and a certain noise at high speeds.
In Europe, the Bronco is available in Outer Banks and Badlands trims. Both are fully equipped, but have different purposes: the former is more suited to everyday road use, while the Badlands version is aimed at extreme adventurers. The latter adds a locking front differential, the ability to disconnect the front sway bar for more wheel travel, and specific shock absorbers for the most difficult terrain.
Strengths
One of the most interesting aspects is the attention to detail designed for off-road: from the 360-degree cameras to the waterproof and dirt-resistant buttons, everything is designed to ensure functionality even in the most critical conditions.
The equipment is that of a high-end car: leather, electric seats, premium audio system and other comforts make the driving experience very pleasant, even if it is a vehicle designed for off-roading.
In addition, the driving system offers seven selectable modes, which allow you to adapt the vehicle’s response to different types of terrain.
Things to consider
However, the Bronco is not without its flaws. At high speeds, wind noise is noticeable, aided by the boxy body line. Furthermore, the engine range is limited to just the 2.7 V6 petrol: a capable engine, but decidedly thirsty.
Finally, for a vehicle in this price range, some of the plastics in the passenger compartment, particularly on the dashboard and rear door panels, are less well-finished than expected.
In conclusion, the Ford Bronco is an ideal choice for those looking for a true off-road vehicle with a strong character, capable of tackling any terrain, without sacrificing comfort and technology. But those looking for a quiet and efficient car for long trips on asphalt might look elsewhere.
